What a wonderful day to welcome and greet our Bishop Logan, who joins us in worship today. It's a special day to give thanks for everyone who seeks to follow Christ and to acknowledge that in fellowship and community we are stronger in our faith journey. We had a conversation at Parish Council the other week and were recalling our own Confirmation service and preparation.
My story is that we had 3 years of Confirmation preparation. By the time my group (15 of us in the little Parish of St. Mary's St. Bartholomew's) was ready for the big day - we had fully explored the Catechism, the Lord's Prayer, the Creeds and the Ten Commandments and most especially the "Rule of Life". The "Rule of Life" was an important part of our preparation for a life of faith. If you're curious, there is a template for such a "Rule" on page 555 of the BCP. My confirmation of faith as a twelve year old set me on a path of discipline, yet always knowing God's love and faithfulness. Can you remember your Confirmation and the promises you made?
